Micro SD Memory Cards For Storing HD Files

Soon after the world saw the invention of Secure Digital Cards (SD), Micro SD hit the market. These are different in a way that they behave as flash memory cards which can also be removed. Because of this feature, they find use in gadgets like mobile phones, music players, gaming consoles, digital camera and any other device that has portable memory component. Micro SD Memory Cards are small in size (the reason why they are called Micro), store data in the form of electronic files which can be transferred from one device to another. Separate Micro SD card readers are also available in the market which all them to be connected to the Personal Computer.

Physically, the Micro SD card is of the dimension: 15x11x1 (all measurements in mm). The small size is to enable usage in ultra-small electronic gadgets and other portable devices. If we compare it to an SD memory card, the size is approximately 1/4th of its size. Nevertheless, it does not affect their memory capacity. A standard Micro SD contains a capacity of 64MB to 4GB (this space may increase in the future with advancements in technology). However, for those who prefer to use SD slots only, there also exist adapters (electro mechanical) that can used to use Micro SD instead of SD cards.

Because Micro SDs evolved from SD cards, it is only correct if there is 100% compatibility between the two. TransFlash, the format on which they were to be used (created by SanDisk) is still being used extensively. The only small difference between the two is that Micro SD supports SDIO mode. This then enables the parent device to use features like GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. All other features remain the same and they are equally apt in managing files and folders. The transfer speed is about 100Mb/sec, considered to be extremely good for any portable device and the amount of data that can be stored is larger (because of the 8 spins).

Since these cards had advanced features, the developers aimed at in cashing huge profits from it. It was launched at a high price but the features made sure that it had takers. As the popularity grew and hence the demand, mass development of the product started which automatically reduced prices to an extent that now they are approximately 1/10th of what they originally were.

A newer version of this electronic card, SDXC is expected to be launched soon. It emphasizes on the need of high memory space and would contain a minimum capacity of 64GB. They are being made keeping in mind the fact that users use a large amount of HD video files for which the memory space requirements are high. The product is expected to get huge demands from Cell Phone users who use them to store HD music, HD pictures, HD videos etc. As advancements in technology take place and the space needs increase, they too would be replaced by something with even higher capacity. The prices would of course be higher.
